The base salary will be in the range of $164,294 - $258,738 including a comprehensive benefits package.

Provides innovative leadership and management oversight to promote, champion, and sustain educational equity and an inclusive instructional and work environment; manages and ensures accountability for the programs and processes of Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) to include direct oversight of divisionwide professional learning, family and student engagement, and student discipline; coordinates and provides equity-related consultation for curriculum, instruction, and assessment for general and special education, adult populations, and related student services; promotes and maintains a focus on raising student achievement, closing achievement gaps, and school improvement; implements the Division’s Strategic Plan and its elements into the organization’s culture; supports equitable opportunities for all students; leads cross-departmental efforts to ensure that innovative and equitable practices are aligned with the Strategic Plan and executed with fidelity; works closely with the Leadership Team to ensure that initiative timelines are developed, executed, and maintained.

MAJOR DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Develops a comprehensive educational equity strategy, including inclusive strategies, for the Division.
  2. Provides consultation and support for innovative educational programs of FCPS, including, but not
  3. limited to, instructional services, special services, professional development, and student activities and
  4. athletics.
  5. Informs, guides, and advises the Division Superintendent and the School Board on matters related to
  6. diversity, equity, and inclusion, such as challenges of distance learning, diversity in admissions,
  7. access to student services, and disciplinary disproportionality.
  8. Collaborates to identify and review research-based programs, initiatives, and best practices that utilize
  9. an equity lens and a philosophy that reflects innovative thinking.
  10. Conducts strategic analyses and develops clear and quantifiable goals and objectives for culturally
  11. responsive educational practices.
  12. Collaborates with departments and manages high-performing action teams tasked with implementing
  13. equitable and inclusive practices and monitoring the outcomes.
  14. Works with the Department of Human Resources to research and analyze organizational data and
  15. develop recruitment strategies that attract a diverse workforce.
  16. Promotes a commitment to a climate of equity and inclusion, while serving as the Division liaison to
  17. external equity related educational committees, task forces, work groups, and initiatives and with
  18. federal, state, and county education officials.
  19. Helps to plan, develop, and implement an instructional pedagogy that is contemporary, learner centered, and focused inclusively on all students attaining the skills and attributes of the Division’s Portrait of a Graduate
  20. Supports a systemic focus on increased academic rigor and challenging content for all students.
  21. Oversees professional development for teachers, school administrators, and staff to ensure cultural responsiveness in their endeavors to accelerate student achievement across all cultures and achieve cultural proficiency and a caring culture across the Division.
  22. Identifies, supports, and monitors training and strategies for addressing gaps in student performance.
  23. Develops short- and long-term plans and an equity scorecard for the Division that align with and help drive and refine the Strategic Plan.
  24. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state regulations and laws.
  25. Provides counsel and direction to principals and program managers on educational equity issues.
  26. Oversees the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology Admissions Office and ensures a diverse applicant pool for admission.
  27. Oversees the Hearings Office.
  28. Performs related duties as required or assigned.

Receives broad direction from the Division Superintendent. Oversees the recruitment, selection, assignment, supervision, and evaluation of lower graded office personnel. Provides guidance and assistance to other full-, part-time, and/or hourly employees, as assigned. Serves as point of contact for the School Board, Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, public entities, community organizations, and the business community.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION-REQUIRED

•Master’s degree.

EDUCATION-PREFERRED

•Doctoral degree.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE-REQUIRED

•Eight (8) years of progressively more responsible experience in leadership and management in education, some of which shall have been in institutional transformation, transformational leadership, and equity attainment.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE-PREFERRED

•Successful experience as a principal or change agent in large organization.

PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION AND/OR LICENSURE-REQUIRED

•Postgraduate educational license with endorsement(s) designated as appropriate to assignment. •Endorsement in administration and supervision Prek-12.

PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION AND/OR LICENSURE-PREFERRED

•Division superintendent license or certification.

•Knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures relating to curriculum and instruction for general education, special education, and adult populations and all related student services.

•Knowledge of American/world history, poverty, and the roots of inequity.
•Knowledge of school improvement and institutional transformation strategies and initiatives. •Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal laws related to schools and equity.
•Knowledge of professional development/training, conflict resolution, and mediation methods. •Ability to set, communicate, and assess program priorities and performance standards.
•Ability to manage, supervise, motivate, lead, and challenge a team.
•Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the multiplicity of constituencies

served by the Division; the School Board; and federal, state, and county officials. •Proficiency in the use of technology and data analysis.
•Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
