About Us

Riverside is a school comprising the towns of Carson, Oakland, and Macedonia in southwest Iowa. We currently serve 716 Pre K-12th grade students in 3 separate schools. Riverside Oakland Elementary is located in Oakland, IA (708 Glass Street) and has 186 Pre K-2nd grade students. It also houses Riverside Childcare offering daycare, before school and afterschool services for children. Riverside Carson Elementaryis located in Carson, IA, (330 Pleasant Street) and serves 145 3rd-5th grade students. Central administration offices are also housed in the school. Riverside Middle/High School is located in Oakland, IA, (18997 Hwy 59) and serves 385 6th-12th grade students. With 55 certified employees and 129 classified employees we aim to meet the needs of every student on their level of learning. Our student body is fortunate to live and work among people from many walks of life, and for that they receive a more well-rounded education that teaches awareness and empathy. Iowa School Performance Profiles show Riverside has performed above average in five-year

graduation rates (2014-2019), proficiency in Math and Language Arts, and post-secondary readiness in both college and career and technical education. The high school agriculture department has been learning hands-on experience planting and harvesting up to 20 acres of land each year.

Our Communities

Carson is only 30 minutes from Council Bluffs, IA, with a great city park with playground equipment, community garden, basketball court, pickle ball court and softball/baseball field. The Carson Rodeo and parade happen every first week in August. For the past 40 years the Dreamland Theater, which is owned by the Carson Business Club, has entertained all ages with movies every weekend.

Oakland is only 30 minutes from Council Bluffs, IA. Oakland has the pleasure of hosting a 4th of July celebration every year in Chautauqua Park with games, activities, and fireworks for all ages. Located outside of Oakland is the OSI meat processing plant that employs many of our community with a variety of jobs. Also included in Oakland are a nursing home and assisted living, hardware store and lumber yard, flower shop, pharmacy, CHI Clinic, a variety of restaurants, grocery store, well digging, an auto dealership, and many more businesses to support our diverse community.

Macedonia offers a small-town family life with the heart of an old-fashioned village. Throughout the year the community is busy with events and activities. Grist Mill theater productions & art shows, community dinners, Annual Donia Day celebrations, Fire Department activities, and an access point to the West Nishnabotna River Water Trail. The town has one of the only two remaining covered softball stadiums in the state as well as a beautifully shaded park with playground equipment and a walking trail.

All the communities share the Riverside Youth Sports program that organizes soccer, flag football, basketball, baseball, softball, T-ball, and volleyball for boys and girls starting at age 4. There is also the Riverside Wrestling Club that exposes youth starting at age 4 to wrestling. There are also several 4-H clubs for students starting in Kindergarten through twelfth grade. The Riverside PRIDE Capital Campaign was recently launched and is a collaborative effort between the Riverside School District and the cities of Oakland, Carson and Macedonia. It will generate funding in support of positive experiences for current and future students, staff, alumni, and the community through the completion of identified infrastructure development projects.

In addition to administrative experience, the candidate must have, or be qualified to obtain, licensure as a Superintendent in Iowa.
